Skincare is a very crowded field to break into. To succeed, indie owners like me have to differentiate ourselves from the pack. Here's what makes Gritty and Gorgeous exceptional:
1. Freshness
It sounds cliché-ish, I know, but natural oils have a shelf-life, and fresh oils perform better than oils that have been sitting on a shelf for a year or more. Also, oils from the same plant species can vary wildly in quality depending on the sourcing, the extration method, and the storage protocols. All jojoba is not the same. All avocado oil is not the same. All essential oils are not the same. Not even close. You get the picture.
So I buy my ingredients from industry-respected purveyors of professional grade ingredients. I buy only premium ingredients and I buy them in small quantities. These are not the same grade of products consumers buy on Amazon or at Walmart.
Almost every one comes with a Certificate of Analysis that gives the batch number and the specific botanical composition to ensure authenticity, so my customers are getting the freshest, most potent form of whatever goes in a formula available.
The gold standard for storage is amber glass bottles, so I immediately repack all liquids into amber glass with a tight seal to maximize freshness, and store them in a dedicated refrigerator until I am ready to blend them.
2. Argon gas
The two biggest enemies of nutritional potency in natural ingredients are UV light and oxygen. The amber bottles solve the UV light problem. Argon gas helps alleviate the oxidation problem.
Argon gas is considerably heavier than oxygen, so if they are in the same bottle, the Argon settles under the oxygen like sediment settles out of water. So, I top off every bottle with a shot of Argon gas in the top of the bottleneck. This seals out oxygen, and keeps whatever is in the bottle at maximum potency.
This is a technique used by fine winemakers to protect their wines from oxidizing and ruining their wine. It is used by only a very small handful of ultra-premium skincare product companies. It is rare because it is tedious and time-consuming, but it is the very best way available to protect delicate oils from oxidizing and becoming rancid before they get used.
3. Bottling
Dropper bottles are very popular. A beautiful golden drop of oil being squeezed from a dropper makes a beautiful marketing picture, but they are not friendly to the product in the bottle. Every time the dropper comes out to distribute whatever is in the bottle, it introduces more air, and whatever contaminates the air holds, back into the bottle. Using a dropper guarantees that the bottom half of the bottle is not as effective as the top half.
I use airless pumps. An airless pump bottle has a movable bottom that rises as the product is dispensed making sure that the product stays in a vaccum and absolutely no air gets in, thus making sure the last drop has the same potency as the first.
4. Size advantage
I know the "size matters" joke is worn out, but in this case size matters tremendously, and small wins! By keeping my business small and lean, I don't have to have a big marketing budget, a human resources department, pay any bloated executive salaries, or owe stockholders dividends. So I can afford to use the same ingredients in some of the most expensive luxury skincare products on the planet, and bring them to you with blue-collar prices.
That's precisely why I have no interest in building a big business. I am building an exceptional small business that is retro-as-hell. Personal customer service. Direct contact with my customers. Awesome, custom-made products. No online purchasing or corporate anonymity. If you have a complaint, this is my business. The buck stops at my door. You bring it to me and I'll handle it.
Which brings us to the final differentiator...
5. My NO BS guarantee.
I’m a craftsman, not a copywriter, and I don’t do hype. Talk is cheap. Proof is in performance.
Buy any product I make. Use every last drop, on your own timeline. If you don't think your skin looks and feels healthier, I’ll refund your money. Period. You alone are judge and jury—no forms, no returning empty bottles, and zero hassle.
You have the same work ethic, the same pride in your craftsmanship, and work shoulder-to-shoulder in the same tough environments as your male counterparts. Yet you remain proudly feminine, comfortable in your skin, and largely ignored by a mainstream skincare industry that too often forces you to choose between being a beauty queen or one of the guys.
I see you, and I built this company to give you a real alternative: high-performance skincare made for women who work hard and refuse to compromise on being feminine.
While your work ethic might be hard as nails, your skin shouldn’t have to be. When the work clothes and PPE come off, your skin should feel gorgeous, soft, and healthy—no total overhaul required.
Your skin works hard. It’s time to give it the respect it deserves.
So look around my website. Read my product descriptions. Compare my ingredients to what you’re using now.
And if you see a product or two you’d like to try, send me an email. I’ll give you a provisional membership in The Gorgeous Skin Club, and you can decide for yourself.
If you love our products, you stay.
If you don’t, I’ll refund your money and open the slot for someone else.
No hard feelings.
